The Young Americans Pt. 4

IMG_3036One of the most internationally touted American single malt whiskies is with out question the Balcones Texas Single Malt Whisky. BWG had our first taste of what Balcones distillery out of Waco Texas had to offer earlier this year, when we review their True Blue 100. True Blue wowed us so much so, that we made it a point to try as many Balcones as we can get our hands on – and that bring us to their Texas Single Malt. This is a uniquely complex whisky right from the start. The nose is loud and robust, with the heavy combo of nail polish inside of a cedar closet. The complexity continues as the nose opens up with dark brown sugar and roasted cedar planks. The palate adds some extra sweetness with a verbose essence of mint julep. The mouth feel is full and savory. Brown sugar-dusted white oak and BBQ’d mint leaves round out the flavor profiles that seamlessly fold into a strong, warm, toasty finish. Balcones Texas Single Malt is one of BWG’s favorite whiskies of 2013 and as such, we’ve named it our 2013 Holiday Must Buy Whisky. If your looking for a great and unique gift for the whisky lover in your life, stop into our exclusive partner store, Gates Circle Liquors and grab a bottle of the Balcones Texas Single Malt for $67. Rating: 93/100.
